The Soulmate Technique — the simple process spirit showed me
If you've read my story, you know the season this comes from. In the spring of 2000 I walked out of a ten-year relationship — heartbroken, starting over, a single mother of four in Laguna Beach with a reading practice growing faster than I could keep up with. And it was right there, in the most uncertain stretch of my life, that spirit showed me what I've called the Soulmate Technique ever since: an extremely simple series of three basic steps for telling yourself the whole truth about the love you're actually asking for — before you go looking for it.
Let me tell you what I was NOT about to do in that season, because it shaped everything. I was not going out to clubs, leaving my children at home. Should a single mother have to pay a babysitter to go look for a soulmate? Seriously? And the men I'd meet out there — I couldn't afford risky people in my life, and neither can you. Online dating looked like a huge time investment in strangers. Every "normal" route the culture offered was unreasonable for a woman in my position. And that's when the understanding came through that still anchors this work: spirit will never ask you to do anything unreasonable — dangerous, expensive, exhausting, or demeaning — in order to love and be loved.
That's also why the Technique is simple. I've seen programs that want to sell you box sets and courses, as if meeting your person requires graduating a curriculum — hours of CDs teaching you how to be loved. We can all agree how ridiculous that sounds. If it feels like a big hassle, it's usually because it is a big hassle — and it isn't spirit asking. Three steps. Anyone can do them. No purchase of anything but candor.
I promised you I'd never sell you a fairy tale, so here it is with no varnish on it: I used the Technique on myself first, in that raw season — and it rearranged me. Not long after, I met my husband Michael, and our life together is the reason I've never stopped teaching it. That is my story, and I tell it because it's true — not because I can promise it will be yours. Nobody can promise you a meeting or a timeline, and I never will. What the Technique does — what I have watched it do, over and over, for twenty-five years — is change your clarity: what you're asking for, what you're done accepting, and what you're actually available to receive. What grows from that clarity belongs to you and to life.
I walk people through the Technique in a reading — it takes one phone call and a willing heart to learn, not a course. If something in you has been waiting for exactly this, that's worth listening to.
